Salad Bucket (Choice of 3 salads): $8.50
Toasted Flatbreads: $8.50 - $9.50
While healthy meals are not our forte at The Pavarotti, even we know that man cannot survive on Chicken Karaage alone. When we've over-indulged and are looking to get some guilt-free runs on the board, we've been known to grab a salad bucket from City Greens. And when one of our readers recommended that we feature City Greens (thanks Angela), we thought we'd try out a few other things they have on offer as well.
City Greens on King Street is bustling every lunch time with fit looking, cycle-to-work types, but they still manage to get your meal to you without too much of a wait. The salad buckets are great value, with your choice of three warm or cold salads in a takeaway bucket. They rotate their salads but you can usually find beetroot, pine nuts and feta; cous cous and pumpkin; curried cauliflower; mushroom risotto; and your green leafy salads among the choices.
There also used to be a $10 flatbread and water combo but sadly it has recently been given a bump to $10.50. Disappointing! Nevertheless, we were keen to try one of the toasted flatbreads. Depending on their fillings, the flatbreads range from $8.50 to $9.50 and are all a decent size. We splurged on a deluxe $9.50 option: the Portuguese chicken 'burger'. They always ask if you want it toasted, which is really a no-brainer. I didn't have the high hopes for the flatbread (we've been burnt with 'healthy' sandwiches before) but it was a pleasant surprise. The mild peri-peri, mixed with a bit of mayo, did remind me of a Nando's burger. Rounded off with some red onion, rocket and roasted capsicum, you have a really nice sandwich that is also quite filling.
