This is probably the greatest name you could come up with for a shop specialising in toasted sandwiches. If that wasn't enough to get us to check out Toastface Grillah, it's also the latest instalment from the team behind one of Perth's favourite venues, The Bird. You'll find it down one of Perth's coolest alleyways, with street art covering the walls. The menu is written on the door with 8 different toasted combinations available.
For something that isn't complicated, a lot of establishments seem to mess up a toasted sandwich - soggy bread, too much/not enough filling and unmelted cheese spring to mind. This however was not the case at Toastface Grillah, the sandwiches were grilled to perfection. There is also a large & free selection of hot sauces and relishes to enjoy your toasties with.
We couldn't go past the Danny Zuccho - "Double Cream Brie, Marinated Zucchini and Prosciutto on a Garlic and Rosemary Buttered Bread" and the Pear Grillz - "Blue Cheese, Pear, Lime Chutney on a Cinnamon Fruit Bread." The bread was crunchy and golden brown, the cheese perfectly melted and oozing out of the toasties. Pizza commercial style strands of cheese formed with each bite. The combination of flavours were superb in the Danny Zuccho. The Pear Grillz was also delicious, but a touch sweet.
We enjoyed Toastface Grillah so much that we've been back again - The Chilli Cheese and the Brie & Jam being sampled second time round. It's also worth mentioning that the coffee (sourced from The Northbridge Coffee Roasters) impressed from both a price ($3.50) and taste perspective.
Toastface Grillah is open from 7am if you prefer your toasties in the morning. Have you got a favourite? Let us know in the comments section below.
