$10 - Various Sandwiches
I know, a sandwich. This isn't very interesting, is it? But what is interesting, is the new venue located on the eastern end of town. Mercado Negro, or 'the black market' in Portuguese, is located on Pier St close to some other Pavarotti friendly locations in Nao and Cafe Karache. It is probably one of the best value breakfast spots you'll find in the city, while all the lunch items are reasonably priced (a $15 steak sandwich was extremely tempting).
All the sandwiches come with a choice of white, wholemeal or a ciabatta bread. "The Beef" (roast beef, mayonaise, mushroom, sundried tomatoes, swiss cheese and spinach) was a pretty damn good sandwich. Whilst it may seem to be overcomplicated on paper it worked fantastically. Combined with a delicious $2.50 Espresso, Mercado Negro came through with the goods!
Mercado Negro is a welcome addition to those on the east end of town. Either for a caffeine hit or a wholesome lunch.
